As more people have become involved in genealogy and as increasing numbers of records have been digitized, there has arisen a need for research support: researchers hit a dead end, it is too far to get to the research location, the difficulty of the assignment requires assistance, and people just run out of time.
One of the forms of research we provide is "Property Research". In Nova Scotia, the property records system converted from an analog to a digital system more than 20 years ago. All new property transactions had to be done as part of the digital system, and the property concerned was "migrated" into the new system. As part of this transition, the Province started digitizing the former records going all the way back to the mid-1700s. While this job is not completely finished, the historical records have been substantially digitized at this point. There are currently about 5.68 million documents digitized (Nov, 2024).
For the historical researcher, the old property records are extremely valuable as they often exist when no other administrative records are available. Moreover, the deed descriptions often have valuable information about the adjacent neighbours to the property, and there can be information about encumbrances and mortgages which were on the property.
Our property research services are organized in a two-step method: an index search, and a document retrieval. The details of those jobs, along with the price are identified below.
*Please note: Research jobs are addressed in the order received. They are handled by knowledgeable and enthusiastic volunteers; however, time constraints can occur. While we endeavor to finalize queries as quickly as possible, please allow for the possibility of 4 - 6 weeks for completion.
