Research Queries
As more people have become involved in genealogy and as increasing numbers of records have been digitized, there has arisen a need for research support: researchers hit a dead end, it is too far to get to the research location, the difficulty of the assignment requires assistance, and people just run out of time.
GANS is now offering a full range of research services to provide support:
*Please note: Queries will be addressed in the order received. They are handled by knowledgeable and enthusiastic volunteers; however, time constraints can occur. While we endeavor to finalize queries as quickly as possible, please allow for the possibility of 4 - 6 weeks for completion.

A “lookup” is a specific request to find out whether we have genealogical information on a particular person, in a particular database or publication we have. The user has all of the specific search criteria (name, 10-year-date-range, location, and publication/database), but needs someone to look it up for them. The user can check the library catalogue for the publications we have. Our digital databases include Chronicle-Herald obituaries for 1961-1999, and Death, Burials & Probate for 1852-1908.

“Consulting” is a general query with open-ended research questions. It could range, for instance, from (a) finding an obituary where there is missing information, to (b) determining the parentage for a specific individual, or to (c) working on an entire lineage.
